When to visit
Denmark comes alive during the summer months, June to August, when the weather is at its warmest and sunniest and perfect for enjoying outdoor activities, festivals, and exploring attractions like Tivoli Gardens, Nyhavn, and the beautiful Danish coastline. Be warned, this is also peak tourist season.
If you prefer milder weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of late spring (May) and early autumn (September). In May, flowers are in bloom, and outdoor cafes start to fill up as the locals embrace the warmth. September offers pleasant temperatures and the beautiful autumn foliage, making it ideal for sightseeing.
How to get there
To get to Denmark, most travelers fly into its major international airport, but other options are available, including trains, buses, ferries, and even driving from nearby European countries. Denmark is well-connected by direct flights from many European cities, including London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Stockholm, while North American cities like New York, Chicago, and Toronto operate direct flights to the city. Doha, Dubai, and Bangkok also offer direct flights.
Denmark has three main airports:
- Copenhagen Airport, located in Copenhagen, is Denmark’s busiest airport and a major hub in Northern Europe, with many international and domestic connections.
- Billund Airport, near Billund in western Denmark, serves as a gateway to Jutland and nearby attractions like Legoland.
- Aalborg Airport, located in Aalborg, mainly handles flights from Scandinavian countries and is a convenient entry point to northern Denmark.
